How history suffers…

It’s the middle of a super hot GT day. There are multiple fans buzzing about me and outside mini-buses are carrying on their usual noisy dance.

I’m here going over documents from the early 1900’s. This bright “organisation” had the grand idea of compiling a history of itself. As you can see from the image here, they didn’t do such a grand job preserving said documents.

Sadly, this is how history suffers in Guyana. It’s locked away in cupboards and left to critters, it’s dumped on horse carts and sent to the dump site; it’s dismissed as meaningless.

It’s so sad that people don’t seem to get that it isn’t history that we mistreat but the foundation of ourselves as a people.

Sharing a quick moment with you while I’m on the go.
Sara.
